Obituary

John Vanderweide was born on August 07, 1962 to Jan Vanderweide and Cornelia Vanderweide (nee Wiggemans) in Deventer, Holland. John is survived by his wife, Christine (Huelma), son Brent and many loving family members and friends. Raised as the youngest child of 5 boys. He is also survived by his 4 brothers Hans (Emily), Will, Peter (Darlene) and Paul (Linda) and their families. Fondly remembered by his brother and sisters -in-law Faith (James), Galilee (Larry), Kathy (Derek), Rhoda (Renshen) and their families as well as family and friends of Christine in the Philippines. John loved to play guitar, and in fact was the lead guitarist of a musical band. He and Christine also loved to sing Karoake. John was introduced to Christine Huelma, by his brother Hans, through Rhoda Chen (Huelma) while attending a Newcomer program with his wife Emily. John spent most of his working life as a Machine Operator at the RockTenn packaging company in Burlington. He worked there for over 35 years until the company closed its operation. Since then John enjoyed his time being a driver for Uber.
John passed away peacefully on August 14, 2019 at the Carpenter Hospice
after a short battle with cancer. The family suggests sending memorial contributions to:

Dear Christine, My heart feels such deep pain of the loss of John for you and Brent. Jesus is right beside you. Call His name and He will bring you a peace and even joy in the middle of your suffering. I have been praying for you and Brent so much.
I remember when you and John were falling in love: We were part of a group that went to the living Nativity up at the Conservation Halton Farm grounds near Kelso on a cold winter night. Hang onto those memories and write them down as they come. It helps a lot too.
With love and prayers, Susan K Laird

I met Christine and John when I first moved to Canada from Scotland, I realized straight away that there were good people with extremely kind hearts. John was a real family man and you just new how much he loved Christine and Brent. John liked to have a laugh in the months up till his death he was still laughing and joking around with myself and my husband Alistair. I will miss him, but I will always have my memories of a very strong determined man with enormous faith in the lord. God bless you John❤️🙏
