Cremation Information

What is Cremation?

Many people select cremation as an alternative to burial.

The Cremation Association of North America describes cremation as, "The mechanical and/or thermal or other dissolution process that reduces human remains to bone fragments". In very basic terms, cremation is a flame-based process in which a human body is placed into a cremation retort where it is reduced to an ash or granular substance.

Some people may also choose to be involved in their loved one's cremation process, either by following them out to the crematorium, or even being present for - and participating to some degree - in their loved one's cremation.  Because we know how healing it can be to take part in an act of "letting go", we welcome the opportunity to bring interested family or friends into the crematory. Please discuss your desire to participate in this process with one of our staff members.

Please visit our FAQ - All About Cremation page for much more information!
Contrary to what many people believe, cremation does not limit one's choices.  In fact, the options with cremation are virtually limitless!

Whether you want a simple, basic cremation with no funeral service or gathering, or you wish to have a funeral service, celebration of life or something more personalized, we will help you understand the many options available so you can make well-informed decisions.

It is truly personal preference that should dictate your decisions, and we are here to walk you through all of the details and assist you every step of the way.

Smith's Cremation Assurance Program

With our own Smith's Cremation Assurance Program, we can guarantee that your loved one never leaves our care.

Families often have questions about the processes and procedures involved in cremation.
Our Cremation Assurance Program answers these questions and explains the measures we take to ensure the exceptional care of every decedent, who never leaves our care and is accompanied by a staff member during every step of the process. As co-owners of our own crematorium, we can also promise that detailed procedures are observed to guarantee that the cremated remains returned to every family are those of your loved one.

By using our own crematorium – one that we know and trust – we are able to uphold our high standards, giving you comfort in knowing that your loved one is cared for at all times, just as we would care for our own family.
