Obituary for
Beatrice Ann McDonough (Peden)
Beatrice Anne McDonough
PHN, MScN, MSc
We are deeply saddened to announce the loss of our dear wife and mother, Beatrice, who passed away peacefully on Saturday February 21st, 2015 at the Juravinski Hospital in Hamilton. Beatrice will be dearly missed by her adoring husband and best friend of 40 years, Dr. Sean P. McDonough, and her loving children Conor (Kelly), Erin (Sacha) Patrick (Danielle), and grandson, Tavish; along with her siblings, Sharon (Jim), Bob (Pam) and their families as well as her extended McDonough family. She was predeceased by her parents, Norman and Agnes Peden.
Beatrice, always the academic, received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and went on to earn a Masters in Nursing and a Masters in Science. She was most recently working on her PhD in Community Health. Bea’s love of learning and research led her to become a valuable member of the Chronic Disease Prevention Team for Hamilton Public Health and an associate professor at McMaster University. Her empathetic nature made her a committed volunteer throughout Burlington and Hamilton; she was passionate about seniors’ issues, heart health, community foundations and the Holy Rosary Catholic Church community.
Her number one priority was spending time with her family and friends. Bea was thoughtful, supportive, fun-loving and hosted many wonderful gatherings. But above all, she was utterly selfless. There are no words that could properly express the deep sense of loss we feel at her passing. We love you deeply and we will miss you always. Special thanks to Drs. Craigie, Major and Marcaccio and the caring nursing staff at Juravinski Cancer Center and Juravinski Hospital. Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 from 3-5 and 7-9 pm with Vigil Prayers at 7 pm. Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 287 Plains Rd. E., Burlington, on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at 11 am.
