Condolences

Condolence From: Kevin “Mtn. Goat” Mallon
Condolence: Being a part of the Bronte Creek Program I had the best time out of all of my high school. I missed a half a day and couldn’t wait to get to the Rocky Ridge Ranch as I didn’t want to miss out. One evening Doug told a story to his students and the children that made me feel like a kid again even though it may have been a fable. I remember paddling with him in Temagami. I was sad to hear of his passing. May he Rest In Peace.

Condolence: Doug and I were classmates at HSC. Doug was a bright, warm and a caring individual with a good sense of humour. He was always there to lend a hand or say a kind word. May you always cherish the wonderful memories you made together. My deepest sympathy to Doug's family.

Condolence: Dear Valerie and Calum,
My deepest sympathies and condolences to you and to your whole family. Doug was a friend from Kandalore, who was of great inspiration to me. During the past 5 years, there have been such special times of reconnection - in Denmark, in Algonquin, in Burlington. And being so few weeks in Canada a year, it seems a small and precious miracle that I should be here at this time. It has been a joy for me that our two families have met, and have so much in common. Doug’s humour, intelligence, thoughtfulness and spirit of adventure have shone through and enriched our lives. All my family send warmest thoughts and we share in your sadness. Doug will be remembered with great fondness and respect.

Condolence: Like many students before and after me, Duck had an immense impact on my life through the Bronte Creek Project. He was an incredible educator who built me up and opened my eyes when I needed it most. I think back on those days with such fondness and gratitude as I am certain I would not be the 30 year-old woman I am today without Duck's encouragement.

Thank you for sharing your husband, father and family member with so many of us. He will be greatly missed xo

Condolence: Another Kandalore person adding condolences- Doug and I went from being campers together to staff over the years. Many wonderful memories of canoes, portages, trips, rapids, and trip and Dining Hall food.
Doug was so at home in a boat, on a campsite, sharing stories and jokes. He was one of the people who made you feel the earth (or water) under you, and know that this was a source of strength and beauty.
Sincere condolences to all who knew and loved him, especially his family.

Condolence: I have fond memories of Doug as a small boy for whom I used to baby sit with his brother Bob. He grew into a lovely caring man by all accounts. I remember him best as Dougie, hunting for Easter eggs in our "island" within the driveway on Cait Court. What a sad loss that he is gone.

Condolence: As a colleague and friend of Doug’s from his Kandalore days I remember fondly the summers we worked together, having great adventures both on the water and off of it, as well as a friendship that continued once we left camp to go our ways. Doug was a good guy: talented, innovative, thoughtful, and professional in his craft. So it’s very sad that he’s gone. But the good memories of this very good person, and the influence he had on many people will continue.
