Passed away peacefully at Joseph Brant Hospital, Burlington, on Tuesday, November 24, 2015, at the age of 95. Born in Bridgeville, Québec on July 26, 1920. Loving husband of the late Germaine Gravel for 56 years. Dear father of Michel (Alexandra Alban), Claude (Donna), and Gilles (Judi). He was very proud of his grandchildren, Milena, Daniel and Matthew, and Sophie Thibeault. Predeceased by his parents Emmanuel and Hénédine, and siblings Philémon (Germaine), Antonio (Gabrielle), Zita (Didace Boudreau), Alma, Georges and Madeleine (Léopold Dion). Survived by Léopold (Françoise), Joseph (Hélène), Dieudonné (Solange), Olivier (Marie Rose), Valmon (Marie Rose), Joseph-Noël (Rita), Louis-Majorique [Dit Magella] (Monique), Lauria (Émile Lemire), Annie (Pierre Petit). Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be dearly remembered by family and friends throughout Canada.

Maurice was a veteran of World War II. He enlisted at Rimouski in 1939 with the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps and then with the French-Canadian unit, Le Régiment de la Chaudière. He served until 1946 as a Quartermaster Sergeant.

Proud 63 year member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, most recently with Local 128 Ontario.

Cremation has taken place at his request. Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 485 Brant Street, (one block north of city hall) Burlington (905-632-3333) on Friday, November 27, 2015 from 7-9 PM, with Vigil Prayers at 8:30 PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Paroisse St. Philippe, 472 Locust Street (at Ontario St.) Burlington on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 10 AM. Interment at Burlington Memorial Gardens. Reception to follow at Smith’s Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Paroisse St. Philippe or to the Carpenter Hospice of Burlington.
