Memories of Flo

My family became acquainted with Flo and Morley when my dad, Joe Himsl, built our family cottage beside Flo and Morley"s cottage at Point Clark.  At that time I was a teenager.  I remember that Morley was ill but they both still enjoyed the cottage. Mandy and Nancy would come with their grandparents sometimes. They were just little girls then and so cute and sweet. We used to play with them even though my bother, sister and I were older.

My grandmother (Oma) would almost always come to our cottage with us. Flo got along very well with Oma as with all of us.  I think by this time Morley had passed away. Oma used to bake a lot and we also had a lot of summer birthdays with birthday cakes. Flo would often join us for coffee and desert and sometimes in the evening around the fire pit in the backyard where we would chat and laugh and just enjoy each other's company until the mosquitoes attacked.

I remember Flo as a kind, friendly and hard-working person. She always mowed the lawn and did all the yard work and flower gardens at the cottage.  We kept in touch long after she and my parents sold the cottage. We wrote letters every Christmas. The last few years Flo would call us as it was easier. Today, Feb 11, 2019, I tried to call Flo and was surprised to learn her phone was disconnected.  After looking into it I learned that she had passed away only a few days ago.  I wish I had called sooner and had the chance to speak to her one more time .I will miss her.

Sincerely

Helen Tschirhart
