A true Racer

While reading the Hamilton Spectator a few weeks back, I was  saddened to notice the passing of car racer Jimmy Howard. As a previous competitor at Flamboro Speedway I has the pleasure to get to know Jim and had a huge respect for the talent behind the wheel and especially the talent on the tools.

I retired from my work, and of Fridays's I found myself lunching at the Teamster's Hall on Parkdale Ave., in Hamilton, Jimmy always came in also and he would always walk over to my table and ask "what's good today"? I said Jimmy you have to try the soup, it's de;licious, he said what's in it, I said just about everything. I alway's asked Jim to join us, but  he preferred to dine alone, I think we were too noisy for him. On my way to the rest room, I stopped by his table and asked him how his lunch was, he made me chuckle, he said your right the soup had everything in it, I just found one of Harv Lennox's old tires from the Tammy 10. What a wonderful sense of humour.

I'm sure Gentelman Jim, Jesse James Howard will be missed by a lot of people, especially some old drivers such as myself and others. I'm haoppy that he lived to a nice age of 94.

I send my condolenses to the Howard family for their loss. It was a pleasure to have met him.
