Obituary for William Donald Tegler

W.D. "Don" Tegler B.A, B.Ed. died peacefully on Friday evening April 29th in Burlington at 86 years of age.
Don was born on November 26th, 1924 in Hamilton to Anthony and Florence Tegler, he is survived by his sister Jeanne and brother John. Don joined the military in 1943 for WWII where he excelled in marksmanship and with an aptitude for mathematics was trained as a navigator in the Royal Canadian Airforce. On August 24th, 1946 Don married Audrey Joyce Cowman also from Hamilton. At the end of WWII, Don attended University of Toronto, graduating with a B.A. and B.Ed. He began teaching math, science and chemistry in Sudbury, Ontario. Don worked for 30 years with the North York School Board where his abilities lead to appointments as Department Head, Vice Principal and then Principal. Don retired in Burlington in 1982 and during the next 20 years Don and Audrey travelled extensively. Husband to Audrey and father to Donald deceased in 2009 (Cheryl), Larry (Heather), Brent (Ellen), Elaine (Earl), Jim (Vicki) and John (Julie). Don has 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Family will receive friends at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line,(one stop light north of QEW) BURLINGTON, (905-632-3333) on Tuesday May 3rd from 3pm to 5pm and 7pm to 9pm. A celebration of Don's life will be held at St Thomas the Apostle Church, 715 Centre Road, Waterdown, on Wednesday May 4th at 10:30am. Interment Greenwood Cemetery, Burlington.
