Obituary for W. Keith Ellis

W. Keith Ellis
Ellis, W. Keith (1924-2011)
It is with profound sadness the family of Keith Ellis announces his sudden passing on Saturday, February 5, 2011, at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Grimsby. Treasured husband of Margery Louise (Farewell) Ellis for 64 years. Precious father of Pamela McKenna (Dale), grandfather of Kenny VanSickle (Nicole) of Hannon and Christy VanSickle (partner James Phillips) of Toronto and great-grandfather of Blake VanSickle and Ava and Owen Harstone. Predeceased by his parents Stella and Lloyd Ellis, brother Glenn Ellis and sister-in-law Eleanor. Left to mourn are his sisters Madelyn Farrand (Ron) of White Rock, B.C. and Wilma Beaton (Harry) of Calgary, Alberta. Keith was raised in Hamilton and at the age of 18 joined the Canadian Navy serving on the Lethbridge, Comox and Ajax on the North Atlantic Patrol. He was an employee of American Can â€" Ball Packaging for 39 years. Upon retirement he moved from Oakville to Grimsby enjoying many years curling at Grimsby Curling Club and golfing at Twenty Valley Golf Club. Keith was a 25 year member of the Vineland Men's bridge club and enjoyed each game until his last on January 31, 2011. He was a two term president of Big Brothers/Big Sisters â€" Grimsby Branch. Our Poppa, a man of great integrity, wisdom and strength, will be missed beyond measure.
When we think about a man who has a deep and quiet soul,
Who works for what his family needs, takes pleasure in his role.
When we think about a man who has had big challenges to face,
We think about our Poppa with his dignity and grace.
When we think about a man who in his daily life reveals,
So much strength and tenderness and depth in what he feels.
When we think about a man who always gives the best he can,
We think about Poppa, our lifelong hero. A GREAT man.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at Trinity United Church, 100 Main Street West, Grimsby, on Wednesday, February 9, 2011, at 11 am. Reception to follow. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to McNally House.
