nee Elston
Passed away peacefully at Sunrise of Burlington Monday, August 15, 2016 at the age of 94. Predeceased by her husband of 69 years, George Homer Thorpe (March 27, 2015). Dear mother of Ted, Bill and mother-in-law of Mary Thorpe. Cherished grandmother of Carson, Leah, Maya, Sarah (Myles), Carly, Melanie (Michael) and Emily and great-grandmother of Stella and Oliver. Verna will be fondly remembered by her sister Freda Hull and sister-in-law Betty MacMillan and extended family and friends. Predeceased by her parents Frederick and Dorothy Elston and sisters Dorothy Carruthers, Irene Pepperall and Ruth Bacon. Cremation has taken place. A Service of Remembrance will take place at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at 1p.m. Reception to follow. Private interment, St. Luke’s Churchyard, Burlington. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the SPCA or the World Wildlife Fund would be greatly appreciated by the family.
