Peacefully and suddenly at Arbour Creek Long Term Care Centre, on Monday, September 27, 2010, after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimers, Tommaso was called home by God. Born on March 10, 1926, in Sambiase, Catanzaro, Italy, he is the beloved husband of sixty years to Italina (nee Falvo). Beloved father of Joseph and his wife Mary, Frank and his wife Kelly, Gina and her husband Amadio De Iuliis, Sam and Kim Helfmann, Carmelina and her husband Kevin Kavanaugh and Thomas and his wife Suzan. Beloved grandfather of Vanessa and her husband Jamie Mullen, Joanne, Frank, Nick, Chris, Sylvia, Natalie, Samantha, Jonathan, Claudia, Julianna, Nick De Iuliis, Adam De Iuliis and his wife Michelle, Amanda Kavanaugh and Matthew Kavanaugh and great-grandchildren Cohen, Breonne and Riley. Tommaso is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Salvatore and Matilda of Glanbrook, sister and brother-in-law, Angelina and Salvatore Prastia of Italy, sister-in-law Caterina Martire of Stoney Creek, sister-in-law Angie Falvo of the United States and sisters-in-law Giovannia Martello and Vittoria Martire, both of Italy. Tommaso is predeceased by his parents Giuseppi and Carolina (nee Tropea), father-in-law and mother-in-law, Domenico and Carmena Falvo, brother and sister-in-law Francesco and Tesesina, sisters and brothers-in-law Giovannina and Antonio Capporale, Carmelina and Domenico Martello, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Teresina and Antonio Martello, brothers-in-law Luigi Martello, Giuseppe Martire, all of Italy, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Francessa and Giovanni Iannazzo, brother-in-law Giuseppi Martire of Stoney Creek and brother-in-law Antonio Falvo of the United States. He will be sadly missed by his nieces, nephews, family and friends in Canada, the U.S.A., Italy and Australia. Tommaso immigrated to Canada in 1956 and was a dedicated worker of Burlington Steel. He began a well deserved retirement in 1989, which he spent with his loving family and friends. Dad will be forever remembered for his love of gardening, his integrity, love and unwavering commitment to his family. Many thanks to Doctor Profetto for his many years of attentive care, Doctor Bruma of Arbour Creek and special thanks to the nurses and staff at Arbour Creek for your endless care and love to Dad. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 454 Highway #8 (east of Millen Road) STONEY CREEK (905-664-4222) on Thursday from 3-5 and 7-9 pm, with Vigil prayers at 8:45 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church, 304 Highway #8, Stoney Creek, on Friday, October 1, 2010, at 10 am. Entombment Our Lady of Victory Mausoleum at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Burlington. If desired, memorial contributions to the Alzheimer Society or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
