Obituary for Thomas Richard "Dick" Burns

Thomas Richard "Dick" Burns
BURNS, Thomas Richard “Dick”– (WWII Navigator, RCAF; Optometrist)
Peacefully at Joseph Brant Hospital, Burlington on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at the age of 91. Beloved husband of the late Jessie (nee Fairey) for 53 years. Loving father of Timothy Burns (Kimberly) of Hamilton and Pamela D’Angelo (Mario) of Coquitlam, B.C. Cherished grandfather of Carli, Victoria, Rhiley, Ryan and Shannon. Dear brother of Doreen Owen. Predeceased by his brother Ron and sister Phyllis Talbot. “T.R. Burns, Optometrist” may have been the shingle on his door from 9 to 5 in Hamilton, Dundas, and Caledonia, but Dick’s passion and commitment was always to his family. He was a natural gentleman, full of smiles, warmth, and kindness, and with a great sense of humour always the clown and jokester. Talented in voice, Dick was a long-standing member of the choir at St. Matthew’s Church, Burlington, and throughout the 1980s an active member of the Burlington Light Opera Society. Cremation has taken place. Memorial Service will take place at St. Matthew-on-the-Plains Anglican Church, 126 Plains Road East, Burlington on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 1 p.m. If desired, in lieu of flowers donations to St. Matthew’s Anglican Church would be sincerely appreciated by the family. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of Hampton Terrace for their care.
