Obituary for Thomas Joseph Cox

Cox, Thomas Joseph "Tom" -
Thomas Joseph Cox, formally of Burlington Ontario, passed peacefully at his home in Sebastian Florida on April 8th 2010, in his 85th year. Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Dolores (nee Vaughan), and their children, Adele Peden (David) of Mississauga, Bryan Cox (Karen), Carol Ann Smith (James) all of Burlington, Donna Keher (Dr. Peter) of Bonn, Germany and Evonne Dolphin of Kelowna B.C. Loving grandfather of Rachel, Veronica, Jacob, Emily, Ashley, David, Andrew, Kevin, Kaylea and Kyle and great grandson, Colton. Tom will also be missed by his sister Margareta (Krevenky), brothers Gordon, and Barry, and was predeceased by brothers, Charles and Franklin. Tom joined the Navy during WWII, serving on Atlantic Patrol and Convoy Duty aboard HMCS Buckingham. He worked for Firestone Tire Co., and subsequently operated his own business in Burlington. He volunteered with the Burlington Fire Department. Tom retired to Sebastian, Florida, where he volunteered in Prison Ministry, served on the Church Parish Council, and helped to establish the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Wabasso. He was also active in the Knights of Columbus, a founding member of Sebastian and St. William Assembly. He was a 3-time Grand Knight, Financial Secretary and Faithful Navigator and Past Chairman K. of C. Charities, Diocese of Palm Beach Florida. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Monday from 3-5 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 2265 Headon Rd, Burlington on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. If desired, as an expression of sympathy, donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated by the family.
