Obituary for Sealey Tunis

Sealey Tunis October 26, 1925 to October 12, 2016

Sealey died peacefully with family at his side at Billings Court Manor. He was the much beloved husband of Elizabeth, father of Ted (Debby), Bob, Mary Beth (deceased), loving grandfather to Adam, Matthew, Carson, Katherine and Paul and 7 Great Grandchildren.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio to Mary and Charles Tunis, Sealey moved to Canada when he was 6 years old and grew up at Shoreland on Lakeshore Road in Burlington. Sealey joined the RCAF at 17, but contracted spinal meningitis which led him to become an air traffic controller rather than a pilot. He subsequently joined the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders as a Captain.

Sealey graduated from McMaster University where he met the love of his life, Elizabeth Scranton. After marriage and graduation Sealey launched a successful retail career with Sears. He bought fashion and furniture, but his favorite assignment was toys. His Grandchildren all benefited every Christmas from a trunk full of samples. After retirement he worked with United Way and pursued a private career importing toys in partnership with Henry Lim at Playwell.

Sealey and Liz bought and renovated many homes in Oakville and Burlington, but their favourite spot was their cottage on Lake of Bays. Sealey loved swimming, waterskiing, cottage games, shrimp and roast beef dinners, dogs and pets of all kinds, playing with his grandchildren and watching Coronation Street. He and Elizabeth travelled extensively in China and Asia and were partners for many years in a flat on Pont Street in London. Sealey spent the past 8 years at Billings Court Manor where he was a favourite of the staff, all of whom he adored.
