Obituary for Rosalind Adele Maguire (Gilmartin)

Rosalind Adele Maguire (Gilmartin)
Sep 30, 1931- Mar 28, 2018. Rosalind Adele Maguire (Gilmartin) passed away peacefully at the age of 86 with family by her side. Rosalind was born on the family farm in Drew, Ontario. She was the second youngest of 8. She shared great memories of growing up with music, and a strong Catholic faith. She was known as the girl who was always laughing. Rosalind did well in school, never missed a day, and enjoyed playing baseball. During WWII, she joined the Farmerettes and worked in the Niagara Region to produce food for the war effort. Rosalind went on to become a Registered Nurse and trained in Guelph. She loved nursing and was a natural caregiver. She worked at various hospitals in Toronto, and at St. Joe’s in Hamilton. She and her husband Connor eventually settled in Niagara Falls to raise their 4 daughters. She loved to play cards, loved country music, and was an avid reader. She had a great sense of humour and quick wit. She is fondly remembered and mourned by her four daughters and their husbands: Maureen Gioseffi (Carmen), Sheila Papetti (Jerry), Megan Milani (Anthony) and Patricia Maguire (Brian Crowley); her 7 grandchildren: Madison, Michael, Patrick, Kevin, Curtis, Rylee and Connor. She is sadly missed by numerous nephews and nieces, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Connor; her parents James and Rose (Noonan); her 7 siblings and spouses: Geraldine (Lorne O'Brecht), Mary (Art Occomore). Ruth (Al Hunkeler) Frances (Peter Witteveen), Ursula Vancaeseele (Norbert), Joan Gilmartin, Jack Gilmartin; and her nephew Gil Hunkeler. She lived in Burlington for her remaining years where she had wonderful, caring neighbours and friends. In the last few years of her life, she required help from caregivers. Deeply felt gratitude to Saima, Joanne and Amanda who went above and beyond to love and care for Rosalind. Her daughters are appreciative as well for the fantastic care and support she received at Creekway Village. A private funeral for relatives, at Rosalind’s request, will be held in Mount Forest at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow where she will be laid to rest with her husband, parents, many siblings and extended family.
