It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Roman, peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital, Hamilton on Sunday, May 23rd, 2010 at the age of 91. Beloved husband of Maria (nee Heithier). Loving father of Mary Marrazzo (Frank), Christine Bagni, Roma Mercanti (Sam), Olga Warren, Roman Chorkawyj (Drota) and Liz Mark (Gary). Cherished grandfather of Mario (Marisa), Mark (Leanne), Frank (Candace), Rick (Jill), Jamie, Lisa (Ian), Jennifer (Chad), Samantha, James, Simon (Melanie) and special great-grandfather to many great-grandchildren. Roman was a proud Stelco employee with over 35 years of service and was Maria's gardening partner, helping her win 7 Trillium Awards. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses on the 4th floor at St.Joe's for their wonderful care. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 454 Highway #8 (east of Millen Road) STONEY CREEK 905-664-4222, on Tuesday from 4-8 pm with Vigil Prayers at 7 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, 934 Highway # 8, Winona, on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at 11am. Cremation to follow. If desired, donations to St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation, Hamilton or Goldie's Place at Shalom Village would be appreciated.
