It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother at the age of 89 on Friday, June 25, 2010, at Alexander Place in Waterdown. Loving wife to her late husband, Albert (1984). Dear mother of Elly Koch and her husband Manfred of Burlington, Erich and his wife Lala of Stoney Creek and Albert and his wife Laurel of Burlington. Proud grandmother of Tanya Katolyk and her husband Bohdan, Jeremy Koch, Timothy, Steven, Ronald and Kristan. Devoted aunt of Gertrude Scherer of London, Ontario. Predeceased by sister Hulda Engel(1974) and daughter-in-law Dianna Batke (2006). Melida will be sadly missed by many friends and extended family. Thank you to the staff and volunteers in Home Area 1 at Alexander Place for their care. Special thanks to the staff on the afternoon and night shifts. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW) BURLINGTON (905-632-3333) on Tuesday, June 29, 2010, from 7-9 pm. Funeral Service will take place at Compass Point Bible Church (Eaglesfield Campus), 2501 Eaglesfield Drive (at Dundas Street) Burlington, on Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at 11 am., followed by a luncheon. Interment Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society, Cancer Society or the Kidney Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family.
