Peacefully, at Joseph Brant Hospital, Burlington, Ontario, on Monday, August 31, 2015, at the age of 86. Dearly loved wife and best friend for 40 years of the late Ken Orde (June, 1995). Wonderful mother of Susan Colacitti and her husband Carmine of Toronto, David and his wife Mirka of Dundas. Sweet nana of Michael, Marissa and Sarah Colacitti, and Marina and Matilda Orde. Sister of the late Richard P. Greenhalgh (late Jean) of Surrey, England. Mary was a journalist and editor in the United Kingdom and Burlington area for many years, working for the Burlington Gazette, the Burlington Post, and the Hamilton Spectator. She was an active member in the Burlington community as a member and chair for Halton Helping Hands, a board member for Carey House, and was involved with the Friends of Bronte Creek program at Bronte Creek Provincial Park. Mary was also a board member of Joseph Brant Hospital. Mary helped to create and organize the annual Christmas shopping day at Burlington Mall for people with disabilities, which has been in place now for over 40 years. In 1998 she was named Burlington’s senior of the year. The family wishes to thank the staff at Sunrise, and the nurses, doctors, and staff of Joseph Brant Hospital for the excellent care that Mary received. Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 485 Brant Street, BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Friday, September 4, 2015 from 3-5pm and 7-9pm. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at St. Elizabeth’s Anglican Church (5324 Bromley Road, Burlington) at 11am. Cremation has taken place. As an expression of sympathy, donations to a charity of your choice that is in need or St. Elizabeth’s Anglican Church Memorial Fund would be sincerely appreciated by the family. Hug your family, celebrate life, and have a G&T.
