Obituary for Marie Webb

Marie Webb
Marie (nee O'Connor)Webb
October 10, 1927 â€" November 17, 2010
With grace and courage our mother died following a 8 month journey with
leukemia. Predeceased by husband William Thomas (1991), daughter Margaret
(1956) and son Gary (1998). Marie is survived by son Michael (Terri),
daughters Joanne (Lon), Carolyn (Kevin) and grandchildren Karli, Haley,
Bryan, Connor, Dylan, and her brother Dr. Maurice O'Connor (Rea).
Born October 10, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan Marie moved with her parents
Dr. Maurice O'Connor and Margaret (nee Levick) to Toronto where she
attended Holy Rosary Catholic Grade School and St. Joseph's High School.
Marie married Bill in 1955. Together, they build a cottage in Pointe au
Baril. Moving to Etobicoke in 1959, the cottage was replaced with a
sailboat moored at Port Credit Yacht Club. Marie retired from the City of
Etobicoke in 1986 where she worked for 10 years as an Executive Secretary.
Bucking tradition, Marie and Bill then avoided the empty nest syndrome by
moving to their dream home in Port Elgin on Lake Huron. Following Bill's
death and with the arrival of her first granddaughter, Marie returned to
Etobicoke. She was an incredibly proud grandmother and cherished the time
spent hiking in the woods, singing songs, and developing the imagination
of her grandkids.

With a move to Burlington in 1996, Marie became actively involved with the
Oakville and Burlington Senior Citizens Centres. Marie held dear her
friendships with the Monday Night Dance crowd and the Legion dancers.
Whenever she got the chance Marie danced â€" ballroom, latin, salsa, line
and yes, even belly dancing. In fact, upon learning of her terminal
illness this past March, one of her first thoughts was "I hope the chemo
doesn't interfere with my dancing".

Matching her interest in dance was her passion for travel and Marie was thrilled to journey throughout Canada, Europe and the UK, with her dear
friend Sheila. Life is best shared with friends and special note must be made for the ladies with whom many wonderful memories were made â€" Sheila (Burlington), Roberta
(Oakville), Joan (Bronte) and Rita (California).
Thank you to the Oakville Trafalgar Hospital staff, Dr. McPhaden, Sue,
Marlene, Trish, Terri-Lynn, Richard and Yolanda for their exceptional care
and compassion.
Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME 1167 Guelph Line, (one stoplight north of QEW) BURLINGTON (905-632-3333) on Sunday 3-5 & 7-9 p.m. Memorial Mass will be Celebrated At St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, 196 Kenwood Avenue, Burlington on Tuesday November 23, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Leukemia Society would be very much
appreciated.
