Marcel G. Laurin, 78, of Burlington, Ontario passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and children on February 6, 2017, at the Largo Medical Centre in Largo, Florida. Marcel was born on August 3, 1938 to Wilfred and Bernadette (Cadieux) Laurin in Timmins, Ontario. Marcel spent 28 years in Timmins. During this time, Marcel enjoyed a beautiful childhood with his four brothers and two sisters. Marcel loved to play hockey and ski. As a young man, Marcel began his career by working at the Hollinger Gold Mine in Timmins. He moved to Burlington 51 years ago and worked for the Ford Motor Company for 35 years. He enjoyed his retirement being a handyman, wintering in Florida and playing golf with friends and family. Marcel was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife and best friend Mary, his daughter Carolyn, and three sons Dean (Corinne), Darrin (Katharina), and Gary (Mariam). He was truly loved and enjoyed spending time with his eight beautiful grandchildren. Jake, Katie, Luke, Connor, Joey, Hannah, Holly and Jackson. Marcel was a problem solver who often took on difficult and unwanted projects at work and around the house. Marcel was a man of great faith and integrity. He had great pride in his family. Marcel was a kind and gentle man who was blessed with many great friendships. He will be missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him. Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Thursday, February 16, 2017 from 3-5 & 7-9 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church (2016 Blairholme Avenue, Burlington) on Friday, February 17 at 10:30 a.m. For those who wish, donations of sympathy to: Good Shepherd Centres, 143 Wentworth St. S.
