Burton, Lilla (Lidia) (nee Madia)
October 22, 1951 - August 28, 2016
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lilla at Ridgeview Long Term Care Centre in Stoney Creek on Sunday, August 28, 2016 with her family by her side. Daughter of the late Assunta and Antonio Madia. Cherished wife of Maurice "Ponjo" Burton. Beloved mother of Michael Burton (Lisa) and Anthony Alexander Burton. Cherished grandmother of Emily Moira and Henry Maurice, Samantha, Summer and the late Colin Alexander. Lilla will be dearly missed by her sisters and brothers-in-law; Maria Cardamone (Enrico), Tina Sacco (Domenic), Loretta Madia, Gerald Burton (Wendy) Terry Burton (Ruby). Missed also by her aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Predeceased by parents-in-law Margaret "Peg" (nee Donovan) and Alexander "Shorty" Joseph Burton. Predeceased also by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Ron Burton (Lorraine), Hugh Burton, Judy McIvor (Jack) and Liz Brown. Lilla spent her career as a social worker selflessly helping others. Lilla enjoyed her garden, cooking, music and most of all spending time with her large but close family. Special thanks to Ridgeview LTC for their wonderful and compassionate care during Lilla's last few months. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 454 Highway #8 (east of Millen Road) STONEY CREEK (905-664-4222) on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Prayer Vigil 8:30 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church, 304 Highway # 8, Stoney Creek on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at 11 a.m. Private family entombment White Chapel Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Ridgeview Long Term Care Centre would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
