Obituary for Karen Elizabeth Almas (Harvey)

Karen Elizabeth Almas (Harvey)
ALMAS, Karen (nee: Harvey)
August 21, 1955 - February 29, 2016
Suddenly yet peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital Karen departed this life into the arms of her Saviour on February 29, 2016. Remaining to sorrow is her husband Paul Almas, her son Christopher, her mother and father, Eldon and Arlene Harvey, sister Laurene Armstrong, brother Roy Harvey and sister Karla Beckett and their spouses, in Huntsville, Ontario and Calgary Alberta. Many nieces and nephews will miss her wry sense of humour, enjoyable wit. She has been an exemplary mother and caring, loving, giving spouse. Trusting God has helped her face and survive major medical challenges with her pre-deceased daughter Laura May and a debilitating stroke that diminished her world but never her spirit. Her commitment to integrity, reliability and love for people expanded her executive assistant and office administration career with The Fitness Centre, World Vision Canada, Canadian Blood Services and The Firestone Institute of Respirology, a career that was ruthlessly truncated a decade ago. Yet she never lost love of life, family and growing circles of friends as she reconfigured her new world and looked for ways to expand contact with people. She encouraged others and found creative ways to help courageously exploring new mobility and transit options to expand her range even as she lived with constant pain. Monday morning she enjoyed a pain-free reunion with her now perfect Laura and many loved ones who have gone on before. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at Compass Point Bible Church on 1500 Kerns Road in Burlington on Thursday, March 17th at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
