Joseph "Joe"  Mifsud
MIFSUD, Joseph (WWII Veteran)-
January 9, 1927 - January 24, 2016

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joe at the age of 89. Predeceased by his loving wife Jane (2012). Loving father of Charlie (Bonnie), Al (Illona), Josie (Tom) and David (Debby), father-in-law of Joyce (Andy) and brother-in-law of Doris Vella (Paul, predeceased). Cherished Papa of Brad (Jen), Carrie (Dan), Brian (Marco), Scott (Stephanie), Katie (Sean), Lyndsey (Sean), Kristi, Kyle (Maranda) and great-grandfather of Maya, Hannah, Jack, Josh, Maddox, Joel, and Gavin, Logan, Liam and Cayden. Dear brother of Lawrence (predeceased) and wife Carmen, Gillu (predeceased), Charlie and Maureen (both predeceased), Frank (Josephine), Tony, Lily (John, predeceased) and Vince of Australia. Joe is also lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family (the Pisani and Vella families). He will be remembered for his love of family, his politeness and sweetness, playing euchre and Maltese Rummy, his sense of humour, his love of dancing, and enjoying traditional Maltese dishes. Joseph fought with the Merchant Navy in WW2 including the Beaches of Normandy, and has been a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 60. He worked for 32 years at the Ford Motor Company in Oakville. Visitation will be at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 485 Brant St., (one block north of City Hall) Burlington, 905-632-3333 on Thursday, January 28, 2016 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass: celebrated at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, (Brant St. at Blairholm), Burlington, on Friday, January 29, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. Interment: Burlington Memorial Gardens. Reception to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 60, 828 Legion Road, Burlington. Special thanks to all extended family members who helped with the 24/7 home care of Joe/Papa, PSW Marcia (Capabilities), Dr. Shadd and Shaheen of St. Peter's, and RN's including Carla and Cindy at St. Peter's Hospital for their compassion and care. If desired, expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Peter's Hospital, Hamilton ON or a charity of your choice.
