Obituary for Johnston Young

YOUNG, Johnston - It is with deep sorrow that his family announces the death of Johnston Young on Tuesday, January 18, 2005, at the Toronto General Hospital. Beloved husband of Mona; dearly loved father of Heather and Jennifer and her husband Rod Jones; cherished grandfather of Katie and Gregory, all of Toronto. Johnston is also lovingly remembered by brother-in-law Dr. A.V. Poots, sisters-in-law Elizabeth Young, Lynette Young and Vera Anderson (Jim) and his nieces and nephews. A native of Donegal Ireland, Johnston was educated at Foyle College, Londonderry and Queen`s University, Belfast. He and his wife immigrated to Canada in 1960. His teaching career of forty-one years included being Principal of Saintfield Secondary School, Belfast, as well as principalships at Burford District High School (1969-1974) and Paris District High School (1974-1979). He served as Clerk of Session of Central Presbyterian Church in Brantford. In 1986 he was named to the Community Advisory Board of Hamilton Psychiatric Hospital, having previously been a director of the Canadian Mental Health Association for Brant County. From 1980 to 1986 Johnston served on the Brant District Health Council. As well, he was a member of the Retired Teachers of Ontario Provincial Good Will Committee and a member and Past President of the Paris Lions Club. After moving to Burlington in 1992, Johnston became a member of Wellington Square United Church and Burlington Central Lions Club. Since 2003, Johnston and Mona have resided at Christie Gardens in Toronto, where they belong to Calvin Presbyterian Church. At Johnston`s request, there will be no visitation. Private Cremation. A Service of Remembrance will be held at SMITH`S FUNERAL HOME, 485 Brant Street (one block north of City Hall), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333) on Friday, January 21, 2005 at 11 a.m. If desired, expressions of sympathy to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario, the Kidney Foundation of Canada, the CNIB or the Burlington Lions Club would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
