Obituary for John Harvey "Jack" Dymond

John Harvey "Jack" Dymond
Dymond, John Harvey (Jack)
July 30, 1927 – March 14, 2016
After a brief struggle with cancer, Jack passed peacefully at his home on March 14, 2016 at the age of 88.
Jack is survived by Betty, his beloved wife of 55 years; loving sons Brian (Gibson, Shawna), Gary (Cookney, Susie), and his loving daughter Shelley; Grandson Shawn (Adele), Granddaughters Cheri (Steiner, Scott) and Megan and Great-grandson Matthew (Steiner). Cherished Brother and Sisters, Jim, Marg (Parker), Joan (Gerry,Bond) and Sister-In-Law Barb (George). He will also be sadly missed by many, Nieces, Nephews, Friends, former co-workers of Proctor and Gamble and his Extended Family in the Barbados, Steve and Alison Burke (Kerri, Nathan and Noah) and the many other friends met while walking the beach and swimming in the sea at Miami Beach for twenty-seven winters.
Pre-Deceased by Mother and Father, James and Alice (Dixon); Brothers Roy and wife Jacqueline, George and wife Lil, Brother-in-law Stan (Parker) and Sister-In-Law Florence (Hoyle).
Jack proudly served on a WWII Liberty Transport Ship as a member of the Canadian Merchant Navy and his proudest accomplishment was building (without the aid of any modern power tools) his own home, (The House That Jack Built) for his wife Betty and their three children. Jack was a huge influence on his children and always there to lend wise advice and a helping hand.
Being an avid gardener and loving the outdoors, you would most often find Jack puttering in his raspberry patch or keeping himself busy tending to Betty’s roses, mowing the lawn or doing repairs on the house or just sitting relaxing on the bench and sharing his ice-cream with the dog. Jack and Betty loved boating, camping and skiing and the family spent some of their most happy family times on the Grand River in Caledonia, Dunnville, Cayuga and Lake Ontario.
One of Jack’s favorite places was the War Plane Heritage Museum in Mount Hope, missing only a few of the Air Shows over the years, flying on the Lancaster and later on the B-17. His one big wish granted was to go to the 70th D-Day Celebrations in France to visit the places that his brother Roy had been stationed. Thanks to the hospitality of Shawn and Adele, he also walked the Great Wall of China and ushered in the Chinese New Year’s in Beijing.
Jack touched the lives of everyone that he met during his lifetime and will always be in our hearts and our thoughts. Until we meet again....... Godspeed and rest in peace knowing that you lived, loved and enjoyed life to the fullest.
A special thank you to Shawn Beringer and John McDougall for making it possible to fulfill Jack’s wishes to pass at home, and for all of the support given by his Family and In-Laws, the CCAC and VON.
As per Jack’s wishes, there will be no services. Condolences may be sent to Smith’s Funeral Home, 485 Brant Street, Burlington, ON L7R 2G5.
