Obituary for Joan Bernetta McGinnis (Brawley)

Joan Bernetta McGinnis (Brawley)
McGinnis, Joan (nee Brawley) -

Passed away peacefully, with family by her side in Copetown, Ontario, on Monday, June 6, 2016, at the age of 73. Cherished daughter of late Agnes and Winfield Brawley of MacTier. Beloved wife of Jack McGinnis and cherished mother of Stacey McGinnis (Paul Atkins) and Rhonda Rapson (Kyle). Proud grandmother of Andrew, Tierney, Michael, and Katelynn. Dear sister of Donald Brawley (Jean) of Barrie, Jim Brawley (Shirley) of Barrie, Michael Brawley (Michelle) of Ottawa, and the late Barbara Bernier (late Gerald). Loving aunt to many. Joan fought a courageous battle with cancer for the last 19 years never losing faith, her dignity or positive attitude. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed swimming and was her grandkids #1 fan at all of their events and activities over the years. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Juravinski Cancer Centre for the excellent care that was provided. Visitation will be held at St. Raphael’s Roman Catholic Church (4072 New Street, Burlington), on Friday, June 10, 2016 from 12:30pm until the time of Funeral Mass beginning at 2pm. Reception to follow in the church hall. Private Cremation and Interment to take place at a later date. If desired, donations in Joan’s memory to the Juravinski Cancer Centre would be sincerely appreciated by the family. (Arrangements entrusted to SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, BURLINGTON, 905-632-3333).
