Obituary for Joan Anscomb

Anscomb, Joan Ellen (nee Hale) â€"
Joan passed away on Monday, April 19, 2010 leaving her family and friends to mourn their loss and celebrate her life. Born in Wellingborough, UK April 16, 1923 with her identical twin sister Anne, she grew up in the village of Rowhedge. It was there that she met the love of her life, John, a Canadian Soldier. They married after the war and returned to Canada to begin their big adventure. Before the war Joan trained as a nanny at Dr. Bernardo's and put this to good use as she and John brought many children into their home until permanent families could be found. Mum was always a caregiver; she was a practical teacher and one of the founding members of the Canadian Nanny Training Program at Sheridan College. Her children, Rick and Sharon, Bill and Shari, Jim and Judy, Joni and Robert, Valerie and John and her 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren have many fond memories of life on the farm and wonderful stories Joan loved to tell of her life. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Mum's life will take place at a later date. Those wishing to make a donation in Joan's memory are asked to consider the Canadian Cancer Society. (Arrangements entrusted to SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, BURLINGTON 905-632-3333).
