Obituary for Jill Tamary McDougall (Goodwin)

Jill Tamary McDougall (Goodwin)
MCDOUGALL, Jill Tamary (nee Goodwin)
Passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family at Burlington on the 10th day of May, 2016 at the age of 79. Beloved wife of Donald for almost 61 years. Loving mother to Wendy Kennelly (Brian) of Hamilton, Craig (Janet) of Calgary, and Jane Taylor (Timothy) of Vancouver. Cherished Nana to Conor, Ailish, Kyle, Evan, Paige and Brendan. Predeceased by her parents, Robert (Bob) and Amy Goodwin, Jill will also be sadly missed by her brother Gary Goodwin (Vancouver), her family in England, and by many dear friends. Jill was born in London, England on August 15, 1936 and emigrated to Canada at the age of 13, living first in Winnipeg before moving to Hamilton, where she met her husband Don while working at Westinghouse. Jill will always be remembered as a warm and caring person, with a kind and generous spirit, and a wonderful sense of fun. Jill and Don had a long and loving marriage, sharing a love of travel and enjoyed many adventures together. Her children will always remember Jill for her dedication to them - from hand-sewn Hallowe’en costumes when they were little, homework help in their elementary and high school years, to essay editing and typing while they were at University - and most importantly, for always being there to listen. Jill had many skills and talents - she was a beautiful seamstress (and made both of her daughter’s wedding dresses) - and in later years she was known for her beautiful garden. Jill also set an example through her dedication to many organizations as an active volunteer during her life, inspiring her family to give back to their communities. Jill volunteered countless hours throughout her life, from the Girl Guides (where she served as District Commissioner), the YWCA, and the Women’s Canadian Club of Hamilton (where she was President for 2 years in the 1980’s) to her many years as a member of the Auxiliary of the Royal Botanical Gardens (where she served as President in 2000, received a 15 Year Ontario Volunteer Service Award and last May was the recipient of the 2014 Paterson Bowl Award). The family would like to thank Dr. Al Farsi, Dr. Meneses, CCAC nurse Mira, and the staff, nurses, and volunteers of Carpenter Hospice, as well as many neighbours and friends, for their compassion, care and support, with a special thanks to Roseanne Jung and Wing Lee. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop light north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Sunday, May 15, 2016 from 12 Noon until time of Service of Remembrance at 1 pm. Reception will follow at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, and in keeping with Jill’s wishes, donations in her memory to the Royal Botanical Gardens or the Carpenter Hospice would be appreciated.
