Obituary for James Buchan West


WEST, James Buchan-
Peacefully, with his much loved family at his side, at the Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital, Burlington on Sunday June 11, 2006 James West of Burlington passed away in his 88th year. He leaves behind his wife, Edith after 66 years of marriage, love and companionship. His family Edith and Rodger Gate of Millgrove, Dr. James(Jim) West and his wife Susan of Grand Bay/Westfield, New Brunswick, and Sheila and John Quigley of Burlington, will remember him with love and admiration. Cherished Papa of Lori (Rick), Stephen, Shane(Arlene), Trisha, Sarah (Bill), Heather and Kate and Great Papa of Courtney, Kyle, John, Sarah and Max. He was born in Fraserburgh, Scotland into a family of 12. He is survived by sister Violet Thomson of Burlington, brother, Manson West of Hamilton and sisters Jean, Lily, Olive and Bunty in Scotland. Predeceased by brothers George and William and sisters, Annie and Sarah. Jim was a veteran of World War II (Gordon Highlanders) and spent 5 years as a P.O.W. in Germany. After immigrating to Hamilton in 1947, he worked Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. and served as Clerk of Session at Pioneer Memorial United Church. He retired after 12 years as a Correctional Officer in Guelph. The family invites friends to join with them for a Celebration of Jim’s Life to be held at Brant Hills Presbyterian Church, 2138 Brant Street, Burlington on Friday June 16, 2006 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Alzheimer Society would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
