Passed away peacefully at the Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital, Burlington, on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at the age of 83. Hugh Soutar, beloved husband of Catherine (nee Thomson) and dear father of Rod (Nancy), Veronica (Al) Haunts, Steve (Bev), Graham (late Kym) and Hugh (Ann) Cherished grandfather of Ashley, Kristen, Jennifer, Larkin, Sarah, William, Gordon, Matthew, Morgan, Brooke and Jacob. Hugh is survived by his sister Rena (Jim) Brown, brother James (Margaret) and sisters-in-law Margaret, Stella, Muriel and Mary, he will also be sadly missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Hugh was a retired employee of the Toronto Star, where he worked for 25 years. The Soutar and Haunts family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the 6th floor rehabilitation unit at the Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Thursday from 3-5 and 7-9 pm., a Funeral Service will take place on Friday, July 2, 2010 at 10:30 am. Interment Woodland Cemetery, Hamilton. If desired, as an expression of sympathy, donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Parkinson's Society would be greatly appreciated by the family.
