Obituary for Hester "Het" Powell

Hester "Het" Powell
POWELL, Hester Mary (nee Readhead) â€" Cindy wishes to announce the peaceful passing of her mom, Hester Mary ("Het"), in her 96th year, on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at Mt. Nemo Christian Nursing Home, Burlington. She is now at peace and joins her beloved Maurice in heaven. Much loved only daughter of Walter and Sarah Readhead, and sister to Maurice, Clarke (Jim) and Bill, all deceased. Hester was a woman who unselfishly cared for others throughout her life. She leaves many nieces, nephews and friends to remember her special qualities. Hester started her career as a teacher in the one-room school in Lowville, continued to teach at Lambton-Kingsway Public School in Toronto and, once married, became a homemaker and loving mother and best friend to Cindy. Later in life, she worked as a health care aide at Mt. Nemo Christian Nursing Home where she spent the last year and a half of her life as a resident. She was "mom" to Esther Chepyha, and "Granny Het" to Ada Chepyha. Friends and family are invited to attend a Service in honour of Hester's life at Lowville United Church, 5800 Guelph Line, Burlington on Monday, February 8, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. Private burial at Lowville United Cemetery, following the Service. There will be a visitation and reception at the Church following the burial. Cindy wishes to thank all of those who have been a part of Hester's care in the latter part of her life, with special thanks to the ladies from Lowville United Church, co-ordinated by Nancy Ramshaw, The PSWs from Red Cross, Halton â€" Lena, Suzanne, Anna, Patricia, Juliet, Marleen and Barb and everyone at the Acclaim Health Alzheimer's Day Program, Burlington. Special thanks also to all of the staff at Mt. Nemo Christian Nursing Home for all of your tender loving care and for welcoming us into your "family". You have all made a huge contribution to our lives. In memory of Hester, donations may be made to Lowville United Church, the Acclaim Health Alzheimer's Day Program, Burlington or to Mt. Nemo Christian Nursing Home. Please hug someone you love to honour my mom.
