Obituary for George John Meikle

George passed away on Monday, February 22, 2016, at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Grimsby. He was ninety-one years of age. Husband of Betty, father of the late Sharon Ripley (John) and Terry Meikle (Lori). Remembered by grandchildren Scott (Maria), Sarah (David), Kelly, Mallory (Ken), Keelin and Aidan. Great-grandfather of Amelia and Andrew. Predeceased by his parents Matthew and Mary as well as his brother Archie and sisters Margaret and Irene. Brother-in-law of Herbert (Dianna), Don (Margaret) and the late Glen (d. Vickie). Remembered by many nieces and nephews. George fought in World War II as an infantryman with the Lake Superior Regiment. He returned from the conflict as an amputee. He assisted many amputees to adjust to their loss through the War Amps Association. He worked at Canada Manpower, retiring in 1980, after 35 years of service. After retirement he worked at George Lang Chrysler in Grimsby as a salesman. George was an avid motorcyclist who enjoyed riding his Harley with his now deceased friends Irv and Ralph. George was a frequent presence at Ed's Service Station where he helped Ed fix the cars and socialized with the regulars. Visitation at STONEHOUSE-WHITCOMB FUNERAL HOME, 11 Mountain Street, GRIMSBY (905-945-2755) on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where the Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 26, 2016, at 11 a.m. Interment St. Andrew's Churchyard Cemetery. Memorial donations could be made to the War Amps Key Tag Service, 1 Maybrook Drive, Scarborough, M1V 5K9, or a charity of your choice.
