Obituary for Florence Elizabeth Martin (Martin)

Passed away at her home in Grimsby on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 in her 100th year. Beloved daughter of the late Charles Evan and Florence Adelaide Martin and sister of the late PO Richard Charles Martin (Dick) RCAF, RAF Bomber Command, 7 Squadron Pathfinder. Dear cousin of Christopher Thomson, Lynne Hubbard, Joan Travers, the Carscallen family, Martin Luxton and the late Frederick Martin. Florence was born in Vineland, Ontario, February 21, 1916, moved to Grimsby, Ontario in 1952, was educated at Vineland Public School, BeamsvilIe Secondary School and Queens University. She devoted her life to mostly volunteer work, her church, St. Andrew's Anglican Church, Grimsby, the "Stone Shop Museum" (local history) which later became the Grimsby Museum. She was a volunteer driver for the Cancer society and the Children's Aid (FACS), the Niagara Peninsula Sanatorium, the WLMH Auxiliary, and Schafer Hospital. She enjoyed theatre, classical music and world travel. She had a foster child in India through PLAN. She was citizen of the year in both 1963 and in 1983. In 2012, Florence was the recipient of the Lieutenant Governor's Ontario Heritage Award for Lifetime Achievement. Cremation has taken place. A Funeral Service will take place at St. Andrew's Anglican Church, 7 St. Andrew's Avenue, Grimsby on Friday, August 21, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. An hour prior to the service, friends may pay their respects at the church. Private interment to take place at St. John's Anglican Church, Jordan, Ontario, in the family plot. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
