Obituary for Ernest O. Wilkens

Ernest O. Wilkens, born in Toronto on March 6, 1959. The eldest son of Eva Wilkens and the late Otto J. Wilkens. Beloved brother of Erica (Brian Frawley), Christine (Allan Haines), Marion (Bill Middleton), Karen (Robert Roche) and Andrew (Yukiko Ichihara). Proud uncle of Rachel, Eric, Katie, Catherine, Sara, Liz, Michael, Matthew, Ben, Nathan, Laura, Jacob and Tomo. Ernie grew up in Cabbagetown and attended Rose Avenue, Winchester, Jarvis Collegiate, North Toronto Collegiate and York University. He was a former member of several Toronto and Ontario running clubs, and of MENSA. Ernie was an avid reader and amassed a large collection of books. He also enjoyed writing short stories and poetry, many of which were published in periodicals and on the Internet. Ernie was the epitome of goodness; a gentle, kind, caring, loving, good hearted person. Too soon lost. Never to be forgotten. Always to be loved by those he left behind. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Wednesday from 7-9 pm, and Thursday, May 27, 2010 from 12 noon until time of Funeral Service at 1 pm. Interment Burlington Memorial Gardens. If desired, as an expression of sympathy, donations made to the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
