Obituary for Erma Agnes Persoage

Erma Agnes Persoage
Erma Agnes Persoage

Surrounded by the love of her family, Erma passed away peacefully at her residence on Feb. 4, 2011. She was pre-deceased in 1982 by Nick, her loving husband of 33 years, sister Elizabeth, brother Percy and parents Renie and Arch Lewis.
Left to cherish her memory are her 3 daughters, Margaret (Garry) and their sons Brent & Tim (Melissa & daughter Jayda), Joan (Gene) and their daughters Cheryl (Benny) & Sarah, Karen and her son Justin & daughter Julie, as well as family and dear friends whose lives she touched, and was touched by, in countless ways.
Born 1917 in Maitland Bridge, NS, Erma was 93 years young. She studied nursing at Grace Maternity Hospital in Halifax, joined the RCAF, serving at Sir Frederick Banting Hospital in Gander, NL during WWII. Always venturesome, Erma & friend Alice Merry set out across Canada, settling in Winnipeg, MB where Erma and Nick met. They married in 1949 and moved to Ontario: Morrisburg and Niagara Falls, then Ottawa where they brought up their family and on to Burlington where Nick retired. Erma’s adventurous and curious nature led her in many directions. She had a chocolate business, sold Tupperware and founded Burlington Quilts & Supplies, which included giving quilting lessons, selling supplies from her basement and a national mail order business. When Erma became interested in weaving, she bought a loom and joined the Weavers' Guild, and made many beautiful articles. Her handwork passions were knitting, crocheting and tatting and she enjoyed the challenge of an intricate pattern. Erma never stopped learning. At age 80 she bought a computer, kept in daily email contact with her family and friends and used the internet to research any topic that caught her interest. Her mind was active and vibrant to the end and she was interested in the lives of everyone she met.
Many thanks to Dr. Jason Baker, Dr. Jakov Moric, & Dr. Louie Mavrogiannis & nurse Ben, nurses and caregivers Grace, Carol, Oxana, Tracy, Lynda, Fren, and staff at Scarlett Heights. The comfort you brought her was immeasurable and the love palpable.
A celebration of Erma's life will be held at 1 p.m. Sat., Feb. 26 at Smith's Funeral Home, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), Burlington (905-632-3333). Donations gratefully received in Erma's memory may be made to Pulmonary Rehab Clinic, Toronto Western Hospital, 399 Bathurst St., Toronto M5T 2S8 or Palliative Care Program - Community, Toronto Grace Health Centre, 650 Church St., Toronto M4Y 2G5.
