Obituary for Emily Mansfield-Piercy

MANSFIELD-PIERCY, Emily (nee Cade) - At the age of 83, after a vibrant and full life, passed peacefully and with dignity at the Carpenter Hospice on March 1, 2006. For 42 years, Emily was the loving wife and partner of John Charles Mansfield until his death in 1987. She shared 13 wonderful years with her late husband and soulmate Victor Henry Piercy, who passed away in July 2005. Emily is the beloved mother of Ken Mansfield and his wife Meredith of Ottawa and Alan Mansfield and his wife Elizabeth of South Carolina. Her five granddaughters Kyra, Kelly, Krista, Ashley and Erin and four great-grandchildren Carter, Lexi, Jack and Matt will sorely miss her. She was the caring and devoted daughter to Alfred and Annie Cade and sister to Robert (Bob) Cade, all who predeceased her. She is survived by her sister-in-law Irene Cade of Asheville, North Carolina. Born in Hamilton and a longtime Burlington resident, her warmth and enthusiasm will be remembered by her many friends and neighbours who respected her with their numerous visits and support during her four month illness. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staffs of the Juravinski Cancer Centre, the Community Care Access Centre, Wellington Square United Church Ministry and to the "family" of the Carpenter Hospice for their care, compassion and comfort. "When I come to the end of the road And the sun is set for me I want no rites in a gloom-filled room Why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little but not too much, And not with your head held low, Remember the joy and laughter we shared And lovingly let me go." Visitation at SMITH`S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333) on Saturday, March 4, 2006 from 3 p.m. until the time of the Celebration of Emily`s Life at 4 p.m. Cremation. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy to the Carpenter Hospice, 2250 Parkway Dr., Burlington L7P 1T1 would be sincerely appreciated.
