Obituary for Elizabeth Palmer

Elizabeth PALMER PALMER, Elizabeth (Betty) Patricia (nee Pacey) August 5, 1934 - July 12, 2010 On July 12, 2010, suddenly and peacefully, having lived a rich and fulfilled life. Beloved mother of Eric (Ann Marie) and Angus (Martha), and devoted grandmother of Alicia (Geoffrey), Emily, Caila, Shane, Calvin, Erica and Jillian. Daughter of Ella May and Reginald Pacey, sister of Earl (Pat) Pacey, Alvin (Marion) Pacey, and sister-in-law of Hedley (June) Palmer and Jim (Ruby) Palmer. Betty enjoyed many happy years with Frank Gardiner, and her life-long friend Reid Giffin. Betty's formative years were spent in Matachewan, leaving to train, then nurse at Hamilton General Hospital for 42 years. Hamilton and Ancaster were home and Mom put down deep roots. Betty was one of the most loyal, loving, helpful and hard working people most will ever know. A lifelong letter writer and lover of people, she maintained friendships both old and new around the world. Betty was ahead of her time in many ways, practising composting and recycling 40 years before it became common practice. Betty was a dedicated volunteer to her community, church and the Ancaster Horticultural Society. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 15 at 11:00 a.m. at Marshall United Church on Fiddlers Green Road, in Ancaster, Ontario. Reception to follow at the church, culminating with a tour of her lovely home garden. The family asks, or perhaps Betty insists that no flowers be purchased. Instead, you will be given a plant or flowers from Betty's garden. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ancaster Horticultural Society, Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation, or Marshall United Church would be appreciated.
