Obituary for Duncan John McFadgen

Duncan John McFadgen
McFADGEN, Duncan John -

Embraced by love, Duncan John McFadgen, 93, passed away peacefully at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, February 23, 2016. His all-encompassing love of family, deep and abiding faith and involvement with the Masons were the cornerstones of his life. An avid traveler with his wife Sophie, keen gardener and card player, Duncan gave the best hugs in the world. He was a true gentleman whose sense of honour, wisdom and concern for others will be remembered by his family and many friends across the province. He was married to the love of his life, Sophie (nee Woodley), for 69 years. Well-loved father of Neil, Jan Schlee (Gary) and Diane Mann. Cherished grandpa of Ian (Laura) and Michael McFadgen, Laura Schlee, and Katie (Tyler Hoskin) and Scott Mann. Dear brother of Colin and the late Donald, and brother-in-law of Vi McFadgen.

Duncan served in the Second World War in northwestern Europe, worked for Ontario Hydro for over 40 years and was a long-standing, active member of Wellington Square United Church. He joined Burlington Lodge in 1951, was a founding member of Wellington Square Lodge and a member of Harington Conclave and White Oak Chapter. Duncan was a 33˚ member of the Scottish Rite. He was also a long-time member of Lakeview Chapter and Rundle Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Special thanks to Dr. Michael Foster for the compassionate care he provided over many years and particularly throughout these last challenging weeks.
