Obituary for Douglas Stewart (budgie) Wheaton

Wheaton, Douglas Stewart (Budgie)

"Love is just love, it can never be explained" â€" author unknown
Doug passed away at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital in the early hours of the morning on Wed. February 2, 2011. Never leaving his side was his loving wife and companion of 30 years, Debra Linington. A warm thank you to the staff of the EMS and the ICU for their compassion and support.
Doug lived a full yet, quiet life. After retiring from S.B. Simpson in 2007, his passion for books, rock & roll music, traveling to sunny warm destinations, and his love of TiCat games, golfing and curling filled his days. Summer holidays were spent in Red Bay with most of the "Wheaton Clan" enjoying barbecues and Doug's favourite meal - hotdogs.
Among Doug's greatest gifts to Debra was his family â€" Jeff & Sharon, Jan & Jim, Barb & Gord, Marsha, Colin & Kim. Doug was the trivia master and his intellect was valued by his in-laws â€" Janet & Stan, Karen & Tim, Brenda & (in memory) James. He was loved by countless nieces and nephews and by his two goddaughters, Katherine and Jamie. New Year's celebrants and lifelong friends George & Bonnie Spence will deeply miss him.
Cremation has taken place and family and friends can honour Doug and send a message to Debra and family at www.smithsfh.com
At Doug's request, when the spring arrives and the days are warmer, a "Celebration of Life" will be held.
Donations can be made to the "Honour with Books Program" at the Burlington Library â€" Tansley Woods Branch. His love for historical fiction, atlases, and history will continue through others' eyes.
Doug was never happier than when he could find an outside patio to sit on and enjoy the warm breeze and a cold pint. We see him now, doing just that - under a palm tree, humming the words of ‘American Pie'. Until we meet again….
