Obituary for Donald Mannen

MANNEN, Donald Delmar â€" Donald passed away on Friday, July 2, 2010, at the Brant Centre, Burlington, in his 78th year. Donald was the youngest of 11 children and will be greatly missed by his loving brother Dave Mannen and sister Pearl McColl. Uncle Don held a special place in the hearts of his many nieces and nephews and will be sadly missed. Donald is now reunited with his parents Averill and Ethel; siblings Robert, Lloyd, William, Alice, Bert, Jean, Marion and Beatrice. Don was a resident of St. Thomas for many years and worked at Hartz Mountain until his retirement. He was also a valued resident assistant at Tara Hall. His final home was at The Brant Centre, where the staff affectionately referred to him as the "Gentle Giant", as his peaceful and calming presence had a special effect on those around him. Very special thanks to Dr. Singh for his compassionate and professional care, the outstanding Brant Centre nurses, PSWs and staff for loving, encouraging and caring for Don. The family is especially grateful to Susan, Melissa and Janice who comforted Don in his final moments. A graveside service will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery, Brantford on Friday July 9, 2010 at 11 am. If desired, expressions of sympathy to the Schizophrenia Society or Heart and Stroke Society would be sincerely appreciated.
