Obituary for Donald Eric Berglund

Berglund, Donald Eric

It is with great sadness that the Berglund family announces the unexpected passing of Donald Eric, age 68 years, on October 17th, 2010. Eric collapsed while playing golf on vacation in Branson Missouri. He is survived by his wife Louise (nee Palen) , his son Eric and daughter Kathy, (Andrew Brigant), and granddaughters, Anika and Alyssa Brigant. Also survived by Sister Susan Gibson (Larry), Brother Craig Berglund (Anita) of Thunder Bay and Sister Bettilyn Harden (Curly) of Owen Sound

Eric was an avid sports fan. A long standing member of the Burlington Golf and Country Club, he was an active participant in both golf and curling there. He was a past board member at BGCC. He contributed to all levels of committee and sponsorship.

Eric began work in the Insurance industry in 1966 in Toronto and then transferred to Fort William, Ontario. An alumnus of Queens University, he was awarded the John A Tory Gold Medal in 1972 upon completion of his Chartered Life Underwriter professional designation. In addition to his work and family life, Eric will be remembered in Thunder Bay for his work with Gyro International and also his many sport and social activities.

In 1978, Eric and Louise returned to Southern Ontario. Eric and Marvin Taylor founded Berglund, Taylor and Associates in Burlington and have provided financial planning and life insurance services to the community for the past 30 years. Kathy joined Berglund Taylor in 1994 and has worked in a truly special collaboration with Eric for the past 16 years. Eric's strong professional integrity, diligence of service and dedicated support to his clients will be missed.

The family is especially grateful for the support provided throughout this very difficult time by long time Thunder Bay friends, David and Karen Ringius, who were holidaying with Eric and Louise at the time of Eric's death.

There will be a pre-visitation at 12 noon on Monday October 25th followed immediately by a service at 1 pm at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW) BURLINGTON (905-632-3333). Reception following at the Burlington Golf and Country Club.

Eric believed that charities should be personal. Thus, in lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to the charity of your choice.
