Obituary for Donald Peter Abbott

ABBOTT, Donald Peter - after a valiant struggle with cancer on February 21, 2006 at the age of 72. Loving husband and best friend of Libby (nee Wade). Devoted father of Linda (Ian Ray), Peter and Kim (Andrew Webb). Special Poppa to Tyler and Lauren Ray. Dear brother of Ted (Alison), and Roger. Beloved brother-in-law of Jane and Bruce Merrick and Judy and Peter Farwell.

Peter grew up in Montreal and attended Lower Canada College and McGill University. He went on to enjoy a varied and successful career at Domtar, Arborite, Spalding, Royal LePage, and as owner of Mainway Appraisal. He gave generously of his time as a Halton School Board Trustee, Halton Conservation Authority Board member, Past President of Roseland Club and Sterling Walk Townhouse Association, Membership Committee of Holimont Ski Club and as an elder at Port Nelson United Church.

Peter's true passion was skiing, both as a member of the Redbirds ski club in the Laurentians and the ROGUES at Holimont ski club, Ellicottville, NY. He loved to travel and enjoyed working in Paris, Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, London England, and Burlington. He will be remembered for his deep love of family and friends, his integrity and loyalty, and his positive outlook on life.

Special thanks to Dr. Bill Proctor, Dr. Bruce Merrick, Dr. Lynne Benjamin, Dr. Sebastian Hotte, Dennis Walker, The Carpenter Hospice, Comcare, Red Cross and Joseph Brant Cancer clinic.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation at Smith's Funeral Home 485 Brant St., Burlington on Thursday, February 23, 2006 from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm. A service celebrating Peter's life will be held at Port Nelson United Church 3132 South Drive, Burlington, on Friday February 24th, 2006 at 1p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Carpenter Hospice 2250 Parkway Drive, Burlington, ON L7P 1T1 would be appreciated.
