READ, BETTY “BETTE” (nee White)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our cherished Mother. Betty “Bette” beloved wife of the late Allan Bingham “Pete” Read passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family, on Monday, April 10, 2017. Dearly loved Mother to Kathryn Brown (Bruce deceased), Joanne Charszewski (Tony), Alan (Gerrette), Mary Lou (Gord), Michael (Jennifer) and Paul (Theresa). Loving Grandmother to 13 grandchildren and Great-Grandmother to 11 great-grandchildren. Dear sister of the late Pearl Morris and the late Peter White; Frankie Baron, Michael Baron and the late Ronnie Baron; aunt to Helen FitzGerald (Paul) and Adrian White--all of England. Mum will be sadly missed by cousin Dennis Bates (Pat) and all her extended family in England. Mum is also survived by nieces Jane Yeomans and Nancy Dingwall.

As a young woman, she was a proud member of the renowned Dagenham Girl Pipers. During these years Mum met and married our Dad, a young Canadian soldier serving overseas during the war.

Mum had three fulfilling careers after raising her children. The first was at a local veterinarian clinic where she learned many skills which aided in her second career in research at McMaster Animal Sciences. In addition to her work, she enrolled in evening classes at the University of Toronto and went on to receive her accreditation as a Registered Master Laboratory Animal Technician. After retiring from McMaster, she volunteered for VON, Halton and was later hired by Acclaim Health as the Volunteer Coordinator for Community Support Services. We are very proud of Mum's many accomplishments.

As per Mum's wishes there will be no service. Cremation has taken place. As an expression of sympathy, donations made to the McMaster Children's Hospital, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
