Obituary for Betty Lou Leyland

Betty Lou Leyland
Leyland, Betty Lou (née Axelson)
Peacefully on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Burloak Long Term Care Centre, in her 82nd year. Beloved wife of George Leyland. Loving mother of Steve (Jean), Doug (Marg) and Tom (Shelagh). She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren Stephanie, Justine, Andrew Faulkner, Benjamin Faulkner, Andrew, Claire, Quinn and Hunter. Cherished twin sister of Barbara (Hugh) MacPherson, Dean (Judy) Axelson and Peter (Linda) Axelson. A long-time Burlington resident, member of Port Nelson United Church, and member of the Burlington Golf and Country Club as both a golfer and a curler, Betty Lou was a warm and loving woman who cared deeply about her family and about living life to the fullest. Betty Lou will be remembered for her sense of how things should be and most of all for her lifetime of loving her "Georgie Boy " and the occasional glass of white wine, provided it was presented as ordered. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Burloak LTC, specifically Gail and Rita, for their compassion and wonderful care of Betty Lou, and for treating her as if she was their own mother. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Thursday, February 24, 2011 from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Friday, February 25, 2011 at 1 pm. Private family burial, Burlington Memorial Gardens. Those wishing to make a donation in Betty Lou's memory are asked to consider the Canadian Cancer Society or the Salvation Army. "Loving memories last forever. The song may have ended but the melody lingers on"
