Obituary for Beryl Bayne (Jones)

BAYNE, Beryl (nee Jones)

Born April 23, 1931 in London, England. Died at Joseph Brant Hospital, Burlington, on August 27th, 2015 at the age of 84. Beloved wife of the late Jackson Bayne. Loved step-mother of Jeff (Irene), Don (Sheila) and cherished grandma of Kate (Rich), Laura (Mike), Michael (Crista), Jess, Adam and Evan and great-grandma of Claire, Alex, Sebastian, Cameron, Anna, Jackson and Kjell. Dear sister of Dilys Gilby and Peter Jones (Barbara) and sister-in-law of Patricia Jones. Predeceased by siblings, Thomas Jones, David Jones, and Betty Griffith. Much loved by her nieces Sarah (Barry), Jane (Mark) and Bronwen and nephews Martin (Kay) and Glyn (Sandra) and many great-nieces and great-nephews in Canada and England.
Beryl trained in England as a nanny and worked in this occupation in England and
Canada. She later worked for an insurance company and then as a reservation agent for Air Canada.
Beryl served on the board of Hope Place for many years and was a dedicated and grateful supporter of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Beryl engaged in amateur dramatics and ballroom dancing, played golf, was an inveterate solver of cryptic crosswords, a long-time reader of mysteries and a teller of long tales. She loved parties, was able to strike up a conversation with anyone and never strayed far from her chosen age of 29. She was proud of her Welsh heritage and her red hair.
She will be remembered for her sense of humour, love of family and friends, and Welsh cakes.
A memorial gathering to celebrate Beryl’s life will be held at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 485 Brant Street, (one block north of City Hall), Burlington, (905) 632-3333 on Saturday, September 26th , 2015 from 3pm until 5 pm.
If desired, donations to Hope Place would be sincerely appreciated.
