Obituary for Barbara Jean North

NORTH, Barbara Jean (Babs) â€"
Passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2011. Loved friend, mentor and sister of Kathleen Margaret. Cousin of Jean Nolan (Hamilton), Dell Thomson (Kelowna, B.C.), Lynn Zachow (Maple Ridge, B.C.) and the late Joyce Turcotte. She also leaves behind many kind second cousins and a multitude of friends, both old and new. Barbara enjoyed all visitors, especially Shera, Memphis and Samantha; all able to wag their tails and accept cookies from her doggie bag she carried instead of a purse. Barbara taught nursing at Mohawk College briefly and worked as a registered nurse in B.C., then on 3 South for many years at the Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital. Both Barbara and her family appreciate the devotion of her friends the Hamills, the Unsworth sisters along with Bill, Patricia McDonough, Connie Salmi and the kindness shown by the PSW'S, RPN'S and staff of The Brant Centre Long Term Care. Barbara embraced life completely; had a compassionate heart, a good natured sense of humour, loved to socialize and enjoyed animals. After extensive travel through the years and upon retirement Barbara became a volunteer at Dogguides Canada. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON, 905-632-3333 on Friday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. where a Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 10 a.m. Interment Woodland Cemetery, Hamilton. In lieu of flowers, donations can always be used by Dogguides Canada, Lions Foundation, PO Box 907, Oakville, ON, L6J 5E8 or to the Dr. Norma Wright Medical Bursary Fund, c/o Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital Foundation, 1230 North Shore Blvd., Burlington, ON L7R 4C4 or charity of choice. "In your book were written all the days that were formed for me."
