Obituary for Anne Richards

Anne Richards
Richards, Anne
It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Anne (Phyllis) Richards who died peacefully at Milton District Hospital on Friday, February 26th, 2016 in her 81st year. Beloved wife of the late Dr. Burke Alfred Richards (2004). Loving mother of Carl and his wife Laura of Hamilton, David and his wife Rita of Toronto, Gary of Niagara Falls, NY, and Lisa and her husband Bruce Lord of Milton. Cherished grandmother of Katelin, Graeme, Michael, Daniel and Christine. Dear sister of Elisabeth Holroyde, Margaret Bristol, and John Connell all of England.

Anne was born and raised in Edinburgh Scotland, became a nurse, and a tennis champion. As a nurse in the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary she met her soul mate. After a brief courtship, she came to Canada to marry, spending 47 years in loving matrimony. Besides being a partner in the medical office and raising their 4 children, Anne was an avid tennis player, taking the Burlington Central Tennis Club championship for 17 years, a skier at Blue Mountain, and often caught in the nets of family hockey games. Anne was a volunteer for Amnesty International, Doctor’s Wives, and Crossroads. Anne was also an ardent lover of theatre, literature, crosswords, bridge, gardening and music. She sang for the choir in East Plains United Church, played the organ, and could often be heard humming or singing a tune.

Visitation at Smith’s Funeral Home, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), in Burlington (905-632-3333) on Thursday March 3rd from 6pm-9pm. The celebration of Anne’s life will be at East Plains United Church, (375 Plains Road E., in Burlington), on Sunday March 6th, 2016 at 2:00pm, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate expressions of sympathy to be shown by a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada, or a charity of one’s choice.
