Alexander Ritchie "Alex"  Chisholm
CHISHOLM, Alexander Ritchie-
Formerly of Oakville, Woodstock, Tillsonburg and a past member of the resident’s council in Appleby Place retirement Home in Burlington, passed away at Billings Court Manor in Burlington on 15 March 2016. Predeceased by his much loved wife Christine (2008), grandson Michael Alexander Chisholm (1981), also his elder brother in U.K., Rev. W.D. Chisholm (2004). Survived by two sons, David Chisholm (Sheila) and Douglas Chisholm (Kathleen), granddaughters Jennifer Thurner (Michael), Carina Calow (Graham), grandson Alex Chisholm and five great grandchildren, James, Ronan, William, Spencer and Adalyn. Also by brother Rev. Dr. Francis Chisholm and numerous nephews and nieces in Canada, U.S. and U.K. Alex was born in Kirkcaldy, Scotland. During World War II he served with the R.A.F. in the U.K. and South Africa. He came to Canada with his family in 1957. During his career as a Professional Agrologist, he was first employed in the Ag Chemical industry and later with the Ontario Ministry of Environment, followed by three years as a pesticide course instructor with the Ministry of Agriculture, finally retiring in 1989. His many interests included water colour painting, gardening, golfing, marshalling at the Canadian Open for 12 years, singing in church choirs in Oakville, Woodstock and Ingersoll, plus a seniors choir in Tillsonburg. He enjoyed Probus and was a past president of two clubs, Woodstock Oxford and later Tillsonburg Men's Club. Cremation has taken place. Memorial Service at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 485 Brant Street, (one block north of City Hall), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 1 p.m. Reception to follow at the funeral home. For those who wish, donations in memory of Alexander to the Sick Kids Foundation or the charity of your choice would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
