Obituary for Adena Margaret McNeil

Adena Margaret McNeil
McNeil, Adena Margaret

Passed away peacefully at Lakeshore Place in Burlington, on Friday, October 14, 2016, in her 93rd year. Beloved wife of the late Gordon (2005). Much loved mother of Betty Forrest and her husband Bill (Markham), Margaret McNeil (Vancouver) and Kathryn Doidge and her husband Dennis (Miller Lake). Cherished grandmother of Stephanie (Bill), Kendra (James), Mary, Heather (Lukas), Andrew (Natasha) and Carolyn (Allister), and great-grandmother of Reid, Brady, Felicity and Sarah. Adena was predeceased by her sister Vera Maclean and brother Stuart Maclean. Adena graduated from Toronto General Hospital's School of Nursing in 1948 and married Gordon in 1949. After her children were born, she worked for many years at Joseph Brant Hospital. She was an active member at St Christopher’s Anglican Church for over 40 years. After retirement, she and Gord enjoyed travelling, volunteering in the community, and time with their grandchildren. They loved being active, and were well known in the neighbourhood for their daily walks. After Gordon died, Adena remained involved with the community and her friends. Later, she moved to Lakeshore Place where she lived for over 5 years. Our thanks go to the remarkable staff at Lakeshore Place who loved and cared for our mother in her last years. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Cremation has taken place. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 485 Brant Street, (one block north of City Hall), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. A Service of Remembrance will be held at St. Christopher's Anglican Church, 662 Guelph Line, on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 3 p.m. with reception to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, if desired, donations in memory of Adena to the Partnership West Food Bank, the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
