Obituary for Giovanni Giacomodonato
GIACOMODONATO, Giovanni
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Giovanni Giacomodonato on Sunday, November 25, 2018 at Joseph Brant Hospital at the age of 86. He will be greatly missed by his loving children Luigi, Angela, Joseph (Bonnie). Proud and loving grandfather of Brittany, Rachel, Kristin, Holly, Matthew, and Joshua. Dear brother of Michele, Pietro and Nicola. Giovanni will be missed by his large extended family and numerous friends.
Giovanni was born in Casacalenda, Italy came to Canada in 1953 with only 5 dollars in his pocket which he borrowed from his brother. He and his beloved wife, Anna (2016) married in 1960. They moved with their children to Burlington in 1965 to open his business, “Giovanni & Piero” which he guided for 30 years until his retirement. His passion in his retirement was his grandchildren. He had a love for engaging with people, dancing and most of all, spending time with family especially on ski trips, summer reunions and walks along the shores of Wasaga Beach.
Visitation will be held at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON, 905-632-3333, on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 from 3-5pm and 7-9pm, with vigil prayers at 8pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, (2265 Headon Road, Burlington), on Thursday, November 29th, 2018 at 10:30am. Entombment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Burlington to follow. If desired and in lieu of flowers, donations in Giovanni’s memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
